2022 World Cup playoff: Black Star of Ghana vs Super Eagles of Nigeria

The Super Eagles of Nigeria will be playing away to the Black Star of Ghana, a match that is one of the legs that leads to the  FIFA World Cup finals, scheduled for 14th November – 18th December this year in Qatar.

The winner over the two legs will be one of the Five African Countries that will be playing in that tournament.


The Super Eagles already have numbers of guys that arrived the Abuja camp during the week days and surely some of the big boys will be missed as well.

There is a list of 32 players but 25 is only o the main list, while there will be 7 players on the standby in case of emergency and also the 25 players on the main list is expected to be reduced to 23-man list before qualifier match.

The match today will be very tough because of how important the world cup is, every Country and every player wants to play in the tournament at all cost. But there is optimism in the camp of the Super Eagle because of their performance in the just concluded Afcon tournament even if they eventually dropped from Afcon unexpectedly.

Ghana is a tough team to play against but the former Super Eagle player Aghahowa warned that Ghana will not allow the Super Eagles to win the match because of the rivalry between the two sides.

Julius Aghahowa as well predicted 0-2 win in favor of the Nigerian side and that could mean that the Super Eagles would have one leg in the World Cup as they wait to play the second leg in Abuja.

Arsenal midfielder, Thomas Partey spoke highly of the Super Eagles in an interview, ahead of Ghana World Cup qualifying matches against Nigeria.

He call the Nigerian side a quality team, Partey strongly believes Ghana has a plan and is ready for tomorrow’s 2022 World Cup playoff in Kumasi.

While addressing a press conference on Thursday, the Arsenal player was asked what Ghanaians should expect from the Black Stars tomorrow.

According to Partey, “We are going to give our best tomorrow.

Though the Black Stars of Ghana could be without Daniel Kofi Kyereh, when they host the Super Eagles of Nigeria in Friday’s 2022 FIFA World Cup playoff first leg in Kumasi, after he failed to show up for the Black Stars final training on Thursday.

It was reports that the St. Pauli midfielder missed the final training session due to a suspected thigh injury.

No idea of what the line up and formation will look like at the moment for the two sides, but the expectation is that they should go all out for a win at all cost irrespective of whoever is playing and that will make a tough match.

The list include the following Super Eagle players:

Omeruo, Jo Aribo, Calvin Bassey, Innocent Bonke, and Emmanuel Dennis.

Leicester City forward, Kelechi Iheanacho, defenders Leon Balogun, Semi Ajayi, Shehu Abdullahi and Ola Aina, midfielder Frank Onyeka and goalkeepers Francis Uzoho and Daniel Akpeyi arrived on Monday.

Others are captain Ahmed Musa, Saudi Arabia-based striker Odion Ighalo and Watford trio William Troost-Ekong, and Oghenekaro Etebo, who were the first players to arrive at the camp on Monday morning as well.
